You may be aware that some important changes to the way HCR broadcasts were introduced yesterday. We will be contacting presenters to discuss these issues.
These changes relate to, amongst other things, the number of songs that can be used from the same album in a given period and the number of artists who can be played in a given period.
Some of you may think these changes to be unfair or unreasonable or pointless. However, they are based upon our obligations under the PPL Webcaster licence and the restrictions it imposes upon us. To breach the terms and conditions of the licence is to act unlawfully, which would damage the Station's viability.
It's a complex matter, and we are currently querying some points which are a bit unclear or open to confusion. However, once these points have been clarified, we either accept the terms and conditions as they stand or we stop the Internet streaming. It's as simple as that.
We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience and/or annoyance to presenters, and may conceivably affect the enjoyment of listeners, but we hope that you will all understand the importance of what we are doing.
We are striving to make HCR the very best broadcaster around for the people of Halton, both in music and speech-based output. Please help us to achieve our ambitions.

Dave and Pete, I've read your messages about the change in music policy. Would it be at all possible to give a full evaluation of exactly what has happened, which presenter shows will be affected especially the Sunday afternoon chillout as it is dependent on alot of my own songs.
Is it also possible if presenters are no longer able to create their shows around the music to programme Myriad with the type of songs presenters feature for example in the Sunday 2 to 4 shows I like to play alot of soul/love/motown/soft rock/70's/80's tracks. The Myriad playlist for this time slot does not appear to have any of this genre of music.
Hope you can clarify especially for the weekenders who I know all work so hard to give the best possible output. Many thanks lads. Paul L

Due to the extreme restrictions in the music policy at HCR introduced from this weekend it is with regret that I am not prepared to present the show which to my knowledge was one of the few shows on HCR to have a carefully chosen and professionally balanced blend of classic soul/love and soft rock. I've been around a long time and know a thing or two about quality music.
Unfortunately the features such as the featured artist and simply the best where the listener chose the music could no longer be accomodated. As such the Sunday Afternoon Chillout Zone would have been playlisted to the tracks currently on Myriad and as a perfectionist and professional I would not have been happy presenting a show minus the features whch had become an integral part of Sunday afternoon listening. It has to be 100% for me to do something well and worthwhile.
Sadly I also echo Mark Gudgin's sentiments and would like to take this opportunity to especially thank Pete Muldoon for his kind hospitality and giving me initially the freedom to choose the songs.
I would also like to thank Jon Rumney for his friendliness and unending cheer, alot of potential to go far there mate and also to Mark Gudgin who has a talent which I am sure will one day be truly recognised. Producer Mike, keep eating those biscuits and thanks for the hard production work last week with my featured artist.
Halton was station number 8 for me with possibly some of the nicest colleagues I have worked with.
Best wishes to everyone and thanks for an amazing and valuable eight months.

I can kinda see were the rules have come from, due to the illegal downloading and recording of music from internet based radio, that why they are now in place. In my views, just stick to them and if it has effected anyones shows then do somethink different (e.g. make a new feature that does not break any of the new rules).
Put it this way I would be rather have the radio being listened to anyone in the whole world and also find out how many people are tunes in though online, then just have the FM, because I know people who can not even pick that up in there homes in Runcorn.
Its not to bad of rules but some presenters may look at them and think my show is out the window, I can not use the features, just take a step back and sit down and think of somethink else to do.
Likes of only playing 3 tracks from 1 cd, just find the tracks on other cds and play them that way.
Remixs? we can not do them, but why not look for a remix on a cd from a shop and play them because they don't break the rules.
As a presenter my self the rules have effected my show a little because I use remix cds but what I do now is find the remix on a different cd I own.
Don't get in a mood with the rules, they are there and there's nothing we can do as a radio, but yano just sit down and think of somethink else to do for the shows.
Many Thanks, Ryan (HCR Ryan's Top 10 - Mondays from 4pm)
